Heather was born and raised in small-town Minnesota, the daughter of a teacher and business manager, and granddaughter of a Navy veteran and Iowa farmers. She built a 14-year career in radio before earning her teaching license and a master's degree in Education. She taught high school history, including in the Centennial School District, before joining the Senate in 2023. As a lawmaker, she authored a $300 million public safety package, landmark anti-fraud reform, and free school meals for every student. Over 70% of her bills are bipartisan. She and her husband have four children and several rescue pets.
